Lennie Tristano ; New Tristano JR-10 / Jon Andrews
ABSTRACT: Rhino's reissue of 2 albums by the late pianist Lennie Tristano, which combines the albums on one CD, is long overdue. Lennie Tristano includes the soulful "Requiem," a tribute to Charlie Parker, and the locomotive "Turkish Mambo," both of which utilize multiple piano tracks and the notorious trio sessions in which Tristano adjusted the tape speed to his taste. Tristano's masterpiece, however, is The New Tristano (1962). Tristano's capacity for playing his own bass lines is demonstrated on "Becoming" and "Deliberation".
